Yichien Su, MS, CCC-SLP, is a practicing speech-language pathologist specializing in oral-motor, feeding/swallowing and motor speech disorders. She is trained in Neurodevelomental Treatment (NDT) for infants and toddlers, and has completed Beckman Oral Motor techniques for feeding. Yichien is also certified in VitalStim® therapy which utilizes a specialized form of neuromuscular electrical stimulation approved by the FDA specifically designed to treat swallowing difficulties by stimulating/re-educating the muscles responsible for swallowing.

Yichien has particular interest in treating young children with muscle based motor speech disorders such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Down’s syndrome. Yichien is PROMPT certified (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets), and has been providing individualized treatment programs for children. She also has training in the use of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), which can assist speech and language development in non-verbal and minimally verbal children. Yichien is a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese and has been administering bilingual speech-language (Mandarin and English) evaluation to children from Mandarin speaking families living in the UK and US for many years.

Yichien obtained her Master degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Therapy in 2001 from University College London (UCL), the oldest college of University London in Great Britain. She has a Bachelor Degree of Science in Immunology (1998). She began her career as a speech-language pathologist in England at a local community clinic serving children with developmental speech and language delays/disorders. Yichien also has experience working in special schools for children with moderate to profound disabilities. Yichien has worked in various settings (both adults and children) including intensive rehabilitation facilities, acute hospitals with Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and outpatient facilities. In the past 3 years, Yichien gradually became an exclusively pediatric therapist to better allocate her resources and devote her effort to the area of pediatric feeding, swallowing, and speech-language development. She now works for New Jersey Pediatric Feeding Associates in East Brunswick, New Jersey, USA.
